Scar Revision – Scar Excision

A well-established method for correcting post-mastectomy scarring is the excision of excess skin or soft tissue, commonly referred to as “dog ears.” This approach is especially helpful when prominent areas of skin remain after healing, affecting the aesthetic outcome. If you’ve developed a hypertrophic scar – a thickened, raised type of scarring – gentle, non-invasive treatments are also available. For individuals seeking aesthetic refinement following a mastectomy (top surgery), lipofilling can offer an ideal solution.

Questions about Scar Correction
How does scar Correction Work?
Scar correction usually involves excision of excess skin or soft tissue, often referred to as “dog ears”. This method is especially suitable when healing leaves behind unsightly, protruding or irregular areas of which compromise contour and aesthetics. Once the excess skin and soft tissue is removed, we reshape the scar to harmoniously blend with the surrounding skin.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic on an outpatient basis – meaning you can leave the clinic shortly afterwards.
How much does scar correction after mastectomy cost?
For existing patients we generally cover the costs. New patients whose initial surgery was performed externally can expect costs starting from € 400. The exact price depends on the number and size of the affected areas. During your consultation, we’ll explore all options in detail and provide a tailored cost estimate.
Are there minimally invasive options for improving a hypertrophic scar?
Yes. If you’ve developed a hypertrophic scar – a thick, raised scar – gentle, non-invasive options are available. One effective approach is corticosteroid injection, in which anti-inflammatory medication is introduced directly into the scar. This reduces excessive collagen production and helps flatten and soften the tissue. The treatment is especially helpful for scars that feel hardened or uncomfortable during healing. To achieve visible results, we recommend 2–3 sessions spaced 3–6 weeks apart. After each injection, it’s important to avoid sports, sun exposure, and saunas for 24 hours.

Lipofilling – Correction of Contour Irregularities
Lipofilling, also known as fat grafting or fat injection, is a procedure in which the body's own fat is removed from another part of your body and injected into the target area. It allows for the correction of asymmetries, dents, or uneven contours – including indented scars that may have developed after a mastectomy (top surgery). The result is a more balanced, natural shape.
For those seeking aesthetic enhancement post-mastectomy, lipofilling can be an ideal solution. This gentle, minimally invasive method can effectively improve breast contours and help achieve your desired outcome.

Questions about Lipofilling
How does Lipofilling work?
Lipofilling involves four steps: fat removal, preparation and injection and healing.
1. Fat removal: The procedure begins with the removal of fat tissue from areas with sufficient reserves, such as abdomen, thighs or flanks.
2. Fat preparation: The removed fat is carefully processed and purified to ensure only healthy cells are used.
3. Fat injection: The prepared fat is precisely injected into the affected areas of the chest, layer by layer, to create a smooth and natural shape.
4. Healing process: The fat gradually integrates into the body. On average, 50–70% of the injected fat remains permanently in place.
What are the benefits of Lipofilling for correcting Contour Deformities?
Lipofilling offers a gentle yet effective approach to shape refinement after mastectomy – with several distinct advantages:
Natural results – Because it uses your own fat, there’s no risk of rejection. The result feels soft and authentic.
Minimal scarring – The procedure involves only small incisions, allowing the injection sites to heal quickly and discreetly.
Double effect – In addition to improving contour, lipofilling can enhance scar quality. Stem cells within the fat tissue support healing and promote tissue regeneration.
Long-lasting outcome – Most of the transplanted fat remains in place, providing a durable and naturally shaped result.
What Is the Aftercare Following Lipofilling?
Lipofilling is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Aftercare includes:
In the first few days, avoid physical exertion and pressure on the area where fat was transplanted to protect the results. Compression garments – If fat was harvested from the abdomen or thighs, compression garments must be worn to support healing.
Mild swelling and bruising are normal after the procedure and will gradually subside over several days to weeks.
The final result is generally visible after around 3 months.
How much does Lipofilling Cost?
The cost of lipofilling varies depending on the scope of correction and the complexity of fat harvesting. We’re happy to provide you with a personalized cost estimate.
If you have follow-up cost insurance, you may be eligible for reimbursement — provided the policy is still active.
