Body Countouring
Top surgery represents a meaningful step for many individuals in aligning gender identity with physical appearance. While breast removal or gender-affirming breast surgery are central aspects of the process, shaping body contours also plays an important role. Additive procedures, such as liposuction, can be used to selectively reduce feminine or masculine fat deposits and harmonize body contours. This contributes to a more balanced and personalized body image.

Liposuction
Liposuction allows for targeted and precise fat removal, giving body contours a more naturally masculine or feminine appearance depending on individual needs. Liposuction of feminine fat deposits – such as armpits or waist area can enhance the masculine body image and harmonize proportions. As part of feminizing body contouring, liposuction may be used to reduce masculine proportions and shape harmonious, feminine silhouettes.
Liposuction for Masculinization
Pre-axillary fat deposits, located between the mammary gland and armpit, are frequently treated in top surgery procedures. Gentle, targeted liposuction with fine cannulas is used to remove armpit fat effectively. So-called thoracic fat deposits may form along the sides of the chest and upper arms. These fat pads can soften the transition between the chest and upper body, making the contour appear less defined. Precision liposuction helps create a clearer, more masculine profile. Excess fat on the waist and hips may also affect the desired body contour. Targeted fat removal from these areas results in a firmer and more masculine silhouette.
Liposuction for Feminization
Removing fat deposits from the waist and lateral abdominal area helps to achieve a narrower, hourglass-shaped contour. Targeted liposuction in the lumbar region can shape the transition to the buttocks in a more feminine way, giving the overall appearance a softer and rounder character. Liposuction beneath the chin can also help refine facial features, contributing to a softer and more feminine chin line.

Questions about the Surgery
What are the Advantages of Liposuction in Top Surgery?
The advantages of liposuction as part of top surgery include optimizing body proportions with minimal scarring thanks to the use of fine cannulas.
What is the aftercare for Liposuction?
Thorough aftercare is essential to minimize swelling, support skin regeneration and promote a symmetrical, balanced appearance.
Immediately after the procedure
You will be provided with a special compression garment directly after surgery that should be worn for several weeks. It helps to reduce swelling, allows the skin to adapt to the new body contour and lowers the risk of irregularities.
Pain and healing process
Swelling, bruising and a sensation of tightness may occur in the first few days – this is normal. Mild to moderate pain is usually well managed with pain medication. Most patients feel ready to return to work within a few days, however, physical rest is recommended.
Exercise and physical activity
Gentle movement, such as short walks, is recommended after a few days to promote blood circulation and reduce the risk of thrombosis. However, intensive sports, heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for at least 4–6 weeks.
Lymphatic drainage and scar care
Manual lymphatic drainage may be recommended to support decongestion during recovery. Targeted scar care – using silicone-based products or specialized creams – can also be beneficial, particularly when small access points for liposuction remain visible.
Follow-up appointments
Regular check-ups are important to monitor healing, respond to any irregularities at an early stage and make adjustments – if necessary.
What are the Risks associated with Contouring Liposuction?
After liposuction temporary swelling, bruising, tightness and numbness in the treated areas may occur.
Some risks are specific to liposuction. These include contour irregularities or asymmetries, fluid accumulation (known as seromas), Hardening or temporary skin dicolouration.
Your individual risk depends on various factors such as your skin structure, pre-existing conditions and any current medication. These aspects will be discussed thoroughly during the initial consultation — with time set aside for personal questions and concerns.
